We know we lack in recruitment and we want to try to show our face more as an organization. What if we could do both and have fun at the same time?
Shakespeare on the Green is seeking teams of 10-12 people to serve as what we call Merry Bandits. The Merry Bandits volunteer their time and enthusiasm for one evening's performance at Shakespeare on the Green. They not only run the operations of the festival, but they help keep the festival FREE for families throughout the region to enjoy.
Merry Bandit teams are rewarded by getting an announcement before the show, during intermission and even get special seating. Plus, if your group serves a cause, materials may be made available to the audience at a booth at the entrance.
(It clearly states in the Camarilla Handbook that "the Camarilla is also a social organization with a special commitment to the arts, education, and service. All members are encouraged to learn more about the arts, especially the theatrical arts of acting, costuming, propmaking, storytelling and scene setting through set decoration, lighting and sound. In addition to the arts that we support through the live-action game, the Camarilla sponsors and encourages our members' artistic interests in writing, sketching, painting, illustration, photography, computer graphics, graphic design and other artistic pursuits." I can honestly think of no better way to do this than to become involved in something where we are in the presence of other actors and actresses who love what they do and share it with others)
Activities include:
* Greeting the audience and handing out programs
* Selling souvenirs
* Passing the hat for the all-important contribution
* Having fun!
Much Ado About Nothing June 19-22, July 2 & 5, 2008 (Comedy)
King Lear June 26-29, July 3 & 6, 2008 (Tragedy)
I have enjoyed several seasons of Shakespeare on the Green but never really thought about volunteering. I would need a list of at least 5-10+ people who can commit to this before I call them to see where we can fit in, then we can talk about maybe making T-shirts for the events to advertise what we are as well as kick off the artist design competition that's been talked about for a bit. We only have a few weeks and I would like an answer by this weekend if possible if there are people interested. Remember-this is a rain or shine event and it can still be in the 80's when the show starts. If we do this and people want to come up from Lincoln, crash-space will be provided.
