How exactly does prestige get recorded? How might I get recognized for regional prestige? What do I do if I think someone deserves prestige, but I'm not an officer? I've been asked a few of these questions, so I thought I'd write some of the answers up for you all.
Prestige being one of the benefits of membership, it's important to realize that the player has a lot of the control over what prestige is noted and what isn't. While a coordinator or other officer may notice things that the player doesn't, ultimately it is to the player to track and record their own prestige. This can be done, on a preliminary level, in any document listing date, award worthy event, how much (of what kind) was awarded, and the category it falls under. At later levels, the national template must be used for a review, but if you do not have the template or can't access it, the coordinator staff can help you get it.
You might be asking what is prestige worthy and how much an action is worth. The Camarilla Handbook sets down all the guidelines for prestige earning. (If you don't have a copy, tell me, and we will correct it somehow.) It's hard sometimes to know exactly what falls into each guideline. For situations like this, record what you did, what you *think* it falls under, and what you think appropriate amount should be.
At any time (but usually at the end of each month before reports go out), you can send in your prestige to your direct coordinator for confirmation. You can also talk to anyone in the coordinator chain to figure out what things would be worth. The key here, though, is that you should submit your actions and talk to the coordinators to ensure you get what you deserve in the right category. It's this action that drives the majority of prestige recording/reporting. When you do this, the coordinator staff will talk with you, and if you were wrong about something's worth or category, we'll explain where it falls and work with you to make sure it's recorded correctly. Once we do that, the coordinator will confirm it, and you should see it listed in the next report.
If you feel something was worth regional prestige, you will see it reviewed, then passed up in the domain report as a recommendation for regional prestige. This will be confirmed or denied by the RC, and if confirmed, will appear in the RC's next report. This includes regional donation drives, though the contact points for these charities should be providing a list of who donated what to the DC. Either way, following up on your own prestige is a good idea, and should never hurt anyone's feelings.
Finally, there are times when you don't realize you did something prestige worthy, but other people do. If a coordinator sees it, generally we'll just award the prestige, and let you know what we've done. That doesn't mean that if a coordinator isn't around you won't get prestige for something. ANYONE who sees a member doing something prestige worthy can write it up and recommend another player for prestige. If you do so, please be as specific as possible. While you don't have to recommend an amount (the coordinators can determine that), we do need to know what the player did to earn said prestige. If the coordinator feels that the award is justified (and it isn't duplicated by someone else's recommendation, or the player's own claims), then we will award it.
The bottom line is that reporting to a coordinator (preferably in a form that can be used for long term recording) is the key to getting all the prestige you deserve. The coordinator staff will help you with this...that's part of our job, and we will get you all that we can, but we can't do much if we don't know what you've done.
Feel free to ask for clarification of anything presented, to post comments, or if you have any concerns to post those as well.
