One of the ways we try to give the feel of a World of Darkness is in the fact that our own world, many times, *is* a world of darkness. We hear daily about the crimes, murders, and atrocities, but we still believe in the basic good of humanity. No matter that belief, however, there are still some tragic things that go on.
By incorporating those tragic elements of life into our games, we increase the horror, because we know that it can really happen.
Conversely to that, however, is that said stories should not only educate us and serve as a "moral of the story", but can give us hope that something can be done about it, especially in a world not quite as dark as a game.
