All right so Tim and I were discussing how the course of game has gone and the concern of putting a large portion of the game on hold while resolving combat has been a concern over the last two months or so. With almost 15 players (and hopefully growing) attending on what will seem to be a regular basis I am sending out a request for anyone who is interested in becoming an assistant storyteller for combat/plot development on the more physical antagonist side while I focus more on the political/social aspect of the game to contact me privately explaining why you want to be an assistant and how you can make the game better as aVST combat/plot development and if I get more than one person expressing interest than I will look at who I think can work with me to create the best story possible for the players. It's not about me, it's about the story and its about you having fun playing the game and being flexible while finding out what works to help accomplish that.
What I hope to accomplish with this is for characters who want to
physically do stuff in game have the opportunity to do so without
having to result in downtime scenes or taking away the game from other people who are less combat heavy. The ones who know they would be less effective in a physical fight are more than welcome to stay at the gathering to plot, scheme and socialize in a more civil manner while the beef sticks take care of business and come back to tell the stories of their accomplishments (or failures) to the rest of the city.
Jessye and Scott will still remain as my aVST's for the jobs that they
do because they do them well and help keep me sane. Luke is a narrator who can oversee pulls and make rules calls in the absence of myself or my aVST's (especially since we all currently play Invictus characters) and we saw how effective that was two games ago.
I am looking for someone who can:
*Attend games both in Omaha and Lincoln on a regular basis.
*Will have/already has a good, basic understanding of how combat,
damage and weapons/ingenious devices work in the world of darkness
*Willingly sacrifice their own characters involvement in combat from
time to time due to complexity of the scene or conflict of interest in
plot.
*Tell a player that their character just died because the enemy was
better/luckier than the character but also shows some self-control in
managing combat. I would prefer not to start earning the title "The
Killing Fields".
*Create a scene setting that the characters can walk in on and has an understanding of just how dark the World of Darkness can be. Our average Darkness rating is about 4 on a scale of 1-5 and most of the PC death and corruption comes from within rather than from outside NPC sources ;-)
*Regular access to Internet is *NOT* required but being able to meet with the VST either on-line (e-mail or the variety of chat programs), in person or over the phone at least 24-48 hours before game will be necessary to discuss the game plan and give time if changes are made to story or NPC's need to be created, etc.
You have until next Wednesday, May 30th to contact me and I would like to have a decision made and announced before the next regular scheduled game on June 2nd that will be in Lincoln, time TBA place is most likely Scott's unless we go somewhere different. I will have some things in place for you to work with but if you are my new aVST combat/plot development then expect to be running combat that first game in June. As a venue, we will give this a chance and see how this works.
